Why lists reward putting things off
A sorted list shows what is next at the top. Whatever you skip today moves to tomorrow, and because new things arrive it keeps sliding down. Two weeks later it sits at position 40 and is effectively invisible. The list rewarded your behaviour instead of showing it to you.
The annoying part is that these are often the important ones. The call you would rather not make. The accounting that needs concentration. The appointment nobody enjoys booking.
The attention score
Every tile in Aevo carries a value describing how much attention it deserves right now. It rises from two directions:
- The date approaches. The closer the day you meant to work on it, the higher the value. That is the ordinary curve every task manager knows.
- You postponed it. Each postponement counts up and adds to the value on top. From the third time the tile changes colour.
The second point is the difference. Postponing is a statement about you, not about the task: something else mattered more. That statement accumulates instead of being forgotten.
When something genuinely has to wait
Not every postponement is procrastination. Sometimes it truly cannot be done. Two separate tools cover that, and neither increases the counter:
Pause
The task waits on something outside your control. It goes quiet in the ranking but stays on the board. If it was postponed several times before, that marker remains visible. The hint does not disappear, only the volume.
Start date
The task only makes sense from a certain day. Year-end accounts before February are an intention, not a task. With a start date it stays quiet until then and speaks up on its own afterwards.
Why these are separate: if pausing and postponing shared one mechanism, you could silence an unpleasant task by marking it blocked, and the pressure would never come back. So one lowers the volume while the other builds pressure.
What this is not
Aevo does not score you and sends no reminders to do better. There are no streaks, no points and no statistics about how disciplined you were. The tile becomes more noticeable, and that is the whole mechanism. Whether you act on it stays your decision.
