The short version
Todoist has spent more than fifteen years getting one thing right: writing a task down before the thought is gone. Its input line reads a date, a project and a priority out of a single sentence, and it runs on anything with a screen. If your work is a long run of small, clearly named items, that is hard to beat.
Aevo starts somewhere else. Every task is scored from what you tell it about it. What matters is on the left. Long tasks are drawn large, short ones small. Everything relevant at a glance. And a task rarely stands alone: there are notes attached to it, a project above it, a meeting next to it. Instead of a list you get a surface where those things sit together and point at each other.

What Todoist does better
A comparison is worth nothing if it only flatters one side. Todoist is ahead in three places:
- Capture from anywhere. Natural-language quick add is mature and present on every device. Aevo has one-line quick capture, but only in the browser and on the Mac. A companion app for iOS is in the works.
- Working with other people. Shared projects, assigned tasks, comments. Aevo currently offers no collaboration features.
- Reach. Years of integrations, extensions and templates. Aevo currently integrates with calendars and mailboxes.
If your day rests on any of those three, stay with Todoist - it is an excellent choice!
What Aevo does differently
What matters, at a glance. Every task is given a score based on what you told Aevo about it, and that score decides what is important right now. The further left a task sits, the more it matters. The longer it takes, the larger it is drawn. One look tells you what is actually important.
Postponed work does not go quiet. Every task carries an attention score that climbs each time you push it to tomorrow. The tile takes on colour and moves up in importance. In a list the same task simply drifts downwards and is invisible after a month. The long version is in tasks you keep postponing.
Pausing is not the same as putting off. A task waiting on someone else's reply is not relevant right now. Aevo separates the two and does not count waiting time against you.
Notes live next to the work. A note is its own formatted item that you attach to a task or a project. More on that in tasks and notes in one place.
Nothing reads over your shoulder. Tasks and notes hold client names, medical appointments and half-finished thoughts. Aevo has no assistant, sends nothing to an AI service and trains on nothing. That is a decision, not a gap: task management without AI.
A day has a size. Aevo reads your calendar, works out how much time is actually left today, and shows which tasks still fit. A list of fourteen items due today tells you nothing of the sort.
If you want to move
- In Todoist, open the project and export it as CSV from its menu. This works per project.
- In Aevo, choose the file under settings, account, import data. The project is named after the file, subtasks stay under their task, priorities become stars.
- Give the tasks that matter a date you intend to work on them, and an estimate. That date drives the attention score, not the due date alone.
- Connect your calendar so the day's sum has real numbers to work with.
Completed tasks, reminders and other people's comments stay in Todoist. Recurring dates ("every Monday") arrive as text in the description and are set again in Aevo.
Which one suits you
Todoist suits you if you capture a lot of small items quickly, work with other people, or depend on a wide ecosystem.
